Windows 7 clear unchecked MSconfig startup entries
Q: In Windows 7, how do I get rid of the unchecked entries for Windows startup in msconfig? Over time they have piled up and when the “enable all” button is clicked, problems result. Please help.
A: MSconfig does not include the facility to remove unchecked entries from the Windows 7 startup list. When the list becomes unmanageable, you will have to start regedit. browse to the following registry keys and you can delete the ones you don’t want to see again.
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE – Software – Microsoft – Shared Tools – MSConfig – startupreg
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE – Software – Microsoft – Shared Tools – MSConfig -startupfolder
For your reference, the active startup items are located here:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE – Software – Microsoft – Windows – CurrentVersion – Run
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER – Software – Microsoft – Windows – CurrentVersion – Run
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER – Software – Microsoft – Windows NT – CurrentVersion – Windows (Look under the Run and Load values)
